The four convicts, however, have been on the run since the crime in 2003
A Narayanganj tribunal has sentenced four people to death for killing a minor girl after raping her in 2003.
The convicts are Sujon, Al Amin, Abul Kalam and Shahdat. All of them were tried in absentia.
After examining the records and testimonies of five witnesses, Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Jewel Rana handed down the verdict on Monday.
According to the prosecution, the convicts took 10-year-old Khadiza Aktar of Sadar upazila’s Alirtek area to a nearby mustard filed and took turns in violating the girl in the evening of January 13, 2003.
Later, they killed the girl and left the body there.
The next morning, locals found her body and informed the police who later recovered it and sent to the Sadar Hospital morgue. Autopsy report later showed that Khadiza was strangulated.
Afterwards, the victim’s brother Ansar Ali filed the case at Fatullah police station against the four men.
Later, police submitted a charge sheet against the four convicts, who have been on the run since the filing of the case.
