The Appellate Division has rejected a petition that seeks a stay on the High Court order which asks the authorities concerned to send photographer Shahidul Alam to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital for treatment.

A four-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, rejected the petition as 'not urgent' on Monday, reports UNB.

Earlier on August 7, the High Court asked the authorities concerned to send Shahidul to BSMMU, as soon as possible, for his medical treatment—and form a medical board to examine his health and submit a report on his condition on August 9.

Following the order, Shahidul was taken to the BSMMU Hospital for a medical examination on August 8, and the hospital authorities submitted the report on August 9.

On August 6, a Dhaka court placed Shahidul Alam on a seven-day remand to interrogate him in a case filed under the ICT Act.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police detained Shahidul Alam, managing director of Drik Gallery and chairman of Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, from his Dhanmondi residence on August 5, following his Facebook posts on the recent student movement.

On Sunday, a Dhaka court ordered him to go to jail, after his remand in DB custody was over.
