On September 5, the High Court directed the authorities concerned to provide him with first class division in jail
The Supreme Court has set October 1 for hearing the government’s leave-to-appeal plea—against a recent High Court order that asked it to provide first class division to photographer Shahidul Alam in jail.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice M Imman Ali fixed the date on Tuesday after a brief hearing.
He sent the plea to the full bench of the Appellate Division for the next hearing.
Earlier on September 17, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court order.
On the same day, the government filed a petition seeking a stay on the High Court order.
However, Chamber Judge Justice M Imman Ali dropped the government’s petition from the hearing list and asked it to move a leave-to-appeal petition before the court.
On September 5, the High Court directed the authorities concerned to provide first class division to Shahidul Alam in jail.
Detectives arrested Shahidul Alam from his Dhanmondi residence on August 5 and a case was filed against him at Ramna police station on August 6. He was also placed on a seven-day remand in the case.
Police claim that he spread propaganda during the student movement for road safety.
