Attempt on Ahona's life: Truck driver claims self defence

The man was arrested in Ashulia on Saturday

A truck driver has confessed in court to the attempted murder of film actress Ahona Rahman Lucky in self defence.

Truck driver Sumon Mia, 27, gave his confessional statement before a Dhaka court on Sunday in a case filed with Uttara police station on charge of attempting to murder Ahona.

Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Md Noman recorded Sumon Mia’s statement after Sub-Inspector Humayun Kabir, also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court. 

Later, the magistrate sent him to jail.

Sumon confessed in court that he made the murder attempt to escape arrest or avoid a mob beating when Ahona tried to climb on his vehicle on Wednesday.

Sumon was arrested in Ashulia on the outskirts of the capital on Saturday, based on information from his 16-year-old helper, who was held in Uttara on Friday night.

On Wednesday, Ahona was driving home from Old Dhaka around 4am when a sand-laden truck hit her car in Uttara Sector-7.

Ahona got down from the car and charged the truck driver. At one stage of the altercation, when the truck driver tried to drive off, the actress tried to climb on to the vehicle.

Sumon sped off with Ahona hanging from the door,and accelerated at high speed to throw her off for about one kilometre.

The actress was severely injured when the truck flipped over and some stones hit her at Uttara Sector-12.
