National dailies, on Monday, published a report about pesticides, antibiotics, and bacteria in raw cow milk

The High Court has directed the authorities concerned to conduct a survey across Bangladesh to determine the quantity of cow milk, dairy products, and cow fodder containing: bacteria, antibiotics, lead, and pesticides.

The High Court bench of Justice Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice K M Hafizul Alam came up with the order on Monday; following a report about adulterated milk published by national dailies, reports UNB.

The High Court also asked the authorities to submit a report within 15 days.

The Food, Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, and Health secretaries; cabinet secretaries; all members of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority; members of the Central Food Safety Management Coordination Committee; and the Chairman of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) have been made respondents.

The court also issued a ruling seeking an explanation as to why the inaction and failure of the respondents—to stop the adulteration of cow milk and dairy food products—should not be declared illegal; and why those who are responsible for the adulteration should not be brought under law.

The court also set March 3 for the next hearing.

Different national dailies published a report on Monday, citing a survey report, about the presence of pesticides, antibiotics, and bacteria in raw cow milk.
