A Speedy Trial Tribunal in Jessore has sentenced three to life for the murder of a woman who tried to save her newly-wed daughter-in-law from rape.
On Wednesday, the three convicts: Saidul, Jahid, and Kuddus were produced before the court when the sentence was read out. In addition to the life sentence with hard labour, they have been fined Tk20,000 each. Failing to pay the fine will add another year to their prison sentence.
According to the case docket, on the night of February 23, 2013, the trio attempted to rape a newly-wed bride in a Jessore village. The bride’s mother-in-law tried to stop them, which led to a vicious attack with bladed weapons, killing her.
A case was filed against the three, and the police submitted a charge sheet to the court, who refused the charge sheet and sent the case to the CID for further investigation.
