A Dhaka court on Thursday granted bail to Tasvir Ul Islam, one of the owners of FR Tower, in a case filed over the deadly fire that killed 27 people last month in the capital's Banani area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after hearing a bail petition filed by Tasvir.

On April 8, another Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court rejected bail petitions of Tasvir Ul Islam and SMHI Faruque, the owner of the land on which the 22-storey building was constructed, and sent them to jail on expiry of a seven-day remand.

Earlier on March 31, a metropolitan magistrate court granted seven-day remand for the pair accused in a case filed with Banani police station.

On March 30, Faruque was arrested from Bashundhara Residential Area, while BNP leader Tasvir, one of the owners of the illegally built top floors of the high-rise, was arrested from his Baridhara home.

Banani police Sub-Inspector Milton Datta filed the case, accusing the two, along with Rupayan Group Chairman Liaquat Ali Khan, on March 30.
