Court sentenced Jamal Uddin to life imprisonment, in absentia, for raping a child in Kali Shankarpur area of Kushtia Sadar upazila.
The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge, Munshi Md Mashiur Rahman, announced the verdict on Wednesday.
The convict, Jamal Uddin, 42, remains in hiding at the moment.
According to information with the court, Jamal lured the child by giving chocolate, and raped her in his room, on October 9, 2010.
Later, the mother of the child filed a child rape case with Kushtia Sadar police station against Jamal.
After investigation, police submitted charge-sheet against Jamal, under the Women and Children Repression Prevention act, section 9(1) A.
After a lengthy hearing of testimonies, the court sentenced Jamal to life imprisonment and fined him Tk1 lakh as penalty.
Kushtia Judge Court Public Prosecutor, Advocate Anup Kumar Nandi confirmed the matter.
