A tribunal ordered the OC's arrest on Monday
Former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonagazi police station, Moazzem Hossain, is seeking anticipatory bail from the High Court in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.
Lawyer Salma Sultana filed the bail petition on behalf of the OC on Wednesday. A copy of the petition was submitted to the office of the Attorney General.
When contacted over the phone, Advocate Salma Sultana said: " The hearing of the anticipatory bail petition might be held by a vacation bench or after vacation."
However, she refused to discuss the matter further over the phone.
Earlier, on May 15, Supreme Court lawyer Syeddul Haque Sumon filed the case against Moazzem under the Digital Security Act for recording and circulating a video statement of slain Feni madrasa student, Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
A tribunal in Dhaka ordered the OC's arrest on May 27 when investigators found the allegations brought against him to be true.
Moazzem had summoned Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa's Principal Sirajuddoula and Nusrat to the police station after the latter accused her teacher of sexually harassing her.
Nusrat's mother had filed a case with Sonagazi police over her daughter's sexual harassment. The OC interrogated Nusrat in the absence of her lawyer or any other woman, and used inappropriate language.
The girl was set on fire on April 6 at an exam centre, reportedly by people loyal to Sirajuddoula. Suffering from severe burns, she died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on April 10.
