A Barguna court has ordered the police to seize the wealth of eight fugitives accused in the murder of local youth Rifat Sharif on June 26.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Sirajul Islam Gazi issued the order Thursday morning.

Two of the eight accused are adults, Mohaiminul Islam Sifat and Md Musa, while six are juveniles, said defence lawyer Golam Mostafa.

The court also rejected bail prayers of two juvenile accused, the lawyer said, adding that three others were sent to the juvenile court.

The court fixed October 16 for the next hearing in the case.

Seven other accused in the case, who have been arrested, were produced before the court yesterday, where Rifat’s wife Aysha Siddika Minni, and Arian Hossain, two other accused who are out on bail, were present as well.

After the hearing, the court ordered law enforcement officials to send the accused to the district jail.

Rifat Sharif, who was an internet service provider, was hacked to death on June 26 in Barguna in public, in front of his wife Minni.

The following day, Rifat’s father Dulal Sharif filed a murder case accusing 12 people.

Sabbir Hossain Nayan alias Nayan Bond, the prime accused in the case, was killed in an alleged gunfight with police on July 2.

Minni was arrested on July 16 for her alleged involvement in the fatal attack on Rifat. On August 29, the High Court granted Minni bail on the condition that she would remain in her father’s custody, and would not speak to the media.

Police on September 1 pressed charges against Minni, and 23 others for their alleged involvement in the murder.

Police submitted the chargesheet divided into two segments, one for the 14 juvenile accused, and the other for the10 adult accused.

Minni’s name was seventh on the list of the adult accused.

She was later arrested as initial evidence pointed to her involvement in the killing.
