RAB members detained the ward councilor at Srimangal in Moulvibazar on Friday
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has filed two cases against Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Ward Councillor Habibur Rahman Mizan.
Both of the cases were filed on Saturday.
A case was filed under the Money Laundering Prevention Act with Mohammadpur police station in Dhaka, RAB (legal and media wing) Senior Assistant Director Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan said.
Another case under the Arms Act was filed with Srimangal police station in Moulvibazar, he added.
Earlier on Friday, a team of RAB-9 conducted a drive at the house of Mizan's friend at Srimangal, and detained the DNCC Ward No 32 Councilor Mizan alias Pagla Mizan.
The elite force also recovered a pistol, four bullets, a magazine and Tk2 lakh in cash.
As part of the ongoing crackdown on casinos, RAB members later raided his residence located on Aurangazeb Road in Mohammadpur, and recovered cheques worth Tk6.77 crore, and Tk1 crore in FDR.
RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam confirmed the matter to the reporters on Friday evening.
