Moazzem submitted the bail petition to the Court on July 31 through Advocate Rana Kawser in the case

The High Court has fixed November 3 for passing an order on the bail petition filed by suspended officer-in-charge of Sonagazi police station Moazzem Hossain on the charges of recording statement of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi and making it viral on social media.

The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman fixed the date after concluding hearing on the appeal on Wednesday, reports UNB.

During the hearing, Advocate Abdul Baset Mazumdar, Mozazzam’s lawyer prayed the court for granting bail to Moazzem on the plea that his client did not circulated the video and was sick in custody for a long time.

Moazzem submitted the bail petition to the Court on July 31 through Advocate Rana Kawser in the case.

Deputy Attorney General Md Sarowar Hossain opposing the appeal said the court has already recorded statements of eight witnesses and is scheduled to record the statement of the investigation officer on October 31.

Barrister Sayedul Haque Sumon represented the plaintiff.

Charges were framed against Moazzem at the Cyber Tribunal on July 17.

On April 15, Supreme Court lawyer Sayedul Haque Sumon filed a case against Moazzem under Digital Security Act.

Moazzem had summoned Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa's Principal Sirajuddoula and Nusrat, who accused the teacher of sexually harassing her.

The victim’s mother had filed a case with Sonagazi police station over her daughter’s harassment.

The former OC interrogated Nusrat in the absence of her lawyer or any other woman and used inappropriate language.

Nusrat was later set on fire on April 6 at an exam centre, reportedly by people loyal to Sirajuddoula. She died on April 10 at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Moazzem was initially withdrawn and later suspended on May 10. A tribunal ordered his arrest on May 27 after investigators found allegations brought against him to be true. He was arrested on June 16 from Dhaka’s Shahbagh.

The next day, the Cyber Tribunal rejected his bail plea and sent him to jail.
