The court sent Roksana Parveen to jail after recording her statement
Roksana Parveen, who was earlier arrested in connection with the death of her 12-year-old domestic help from Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area, has confessed to torturing the child to death.
She made the confession after being produced in the chamber of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Yasmin Ara Begum on Friday.
Mohammadpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) (investigation) Abdul Alim produced Roksana before the magistrate with a prayer to record her confessional statement.
In her statement, Roksana admitted that her domestic help, Jannati, died from her torture, court sources said.
After recording the statement, the court ordered to send Roksana to jail.
On Wednesday night, Roksana and her husband Sayeed Ahmed took Jannati to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, where the on-duty physician said the child was dead before arrival.
Police recovered the body, and sent it for autopsy.
On Thursday, the victim's father, Janu Mollah, filed a murder case against the couple with Mohammadpur police station.
Police arrested Roksana on the same day, and said they were trying to nab her husband, who was on the run.
After the autopsy, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College's Forensic Medicine Department head Dr Selim Reza told Dhaka Tribune that the body bore several injury marks, which are presumably from being hit with a metal object.
“The child might have died from internal bleeding,” he added.
