Case filed against unnamed persons on Sunday
Police have arrested the key suspect domestic help in connection with the case filed for the murder of an elderly woman and her maid in a flat in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi.
The domestic help, who went into hiding after the murder, was arrested from Agargaon area around 10:00pm yesterday, Dhanmondi police station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdul Latif told Dhaka Tribune.
The arrestee, Shurovi Akhter Nahida, went to the flat for an interview to work as a domestic help.
Earlier in the day, a case was filed against unnamed individuals in connection with the murders.
Dilruba Sultana, daughter of deceased Afroza Begum, lodged the case on Sunday, the OC said.
On Friday, Afroza Begum, a garment industrialist, and her domestic help, Diti Akter, were killed in Afroza’s flat.
On Saturday, autopsies were performed at Dhaka Medical College morgue.
The autopsy report revealed that both of them died due to excessive blood loss as they were stabbed, and their throats slit.
“According to the inquest report, the killers stabbed both victims with sharp weapons several times on different parts of their bodies. But no sign of rape was found,” police added.
Afroza Begum owned joint venture garment factories and she had one flat registered in her name in Dhaka.
Her daughter, Dilruba Sultana, is married to TeamTex Group's Managing Director (MD) and MD of Creative Group, Kazi Monir Uddin Tarim.
The other victim, Diti Akter, had been working at Afroza's house for the last four and a half years. Diti was hearing impaired and could not speak.
