Abrar was beaten to death inside Buet's Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of October 7
A Dhaka court has denied bail to one of the fugitives in the Abrar Fahad murder case and sent him to jail following his surrender.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara passed the order around 12:15pm on Sunday.
CMM Court General Recording Officer Sub-Inspector Mazharul Islam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Morshed Amartya Islam, one of the main accused in the murder case, was at large for over three months.
Earlier in the morning, Morshed filed a bail petition with the magistrate's court following his surrender.
During the hearing, his lawyer Imrul Hasan spoke in favour of the bail, which was opposed by Assistant Public Prosecutor Hemayet Uddin Khan Heron, who stood for the state.
On January 5, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Kaisarul Islam ordered national daily newspapers to publish notices asking four fugitives to appear before court by January 13.
He passed the order after receiving the execution report of an arrest warrant issued earlier against the four accused fugitives.
The other fugitives, mentioned in the police charge sheet of the case, are Morsheduzzaman Jisan, Ehteshamul Rabbi Tanim, and Muztaba Rafid.
However, the rest of the 21 charge-sheeted accused in the case are now in jail.
On November 13, police submitted a charge sheet against 25 students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), most of them being the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League in Abrar murder case.
On November 18, a Dhaka court accepted the charge sheet, and issued warrants against four fugitives.
Abrar was beaten to death by Chhatra League members inside Sher-e-Bangla Hall of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) in the early hours of October 7.
Some leaders of the organization's Buet chapter have been accused of beating him to death claiming that he was involved with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Abrar's father filed a murder case against 19 people with Chawkbazar police station on the day of the murder.
