A Barguna court on Sunday sentenced a man to death, and sentenced two of his accomplices to different terms in jail, for killing a college student after raping her, more than two years ago in the district.

Barguna Woman and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Hafizur Rahman delivered the verdict in presence of the convicts after considering testimonies of 25 witnesses.

The court sentenced the prime suspect Alamgir Hossain Polash to death, Mainul Ahsan Biplob to life in prison, and Riaz to seven years jail as their involvement in the rape and murder of the eleventh grader was proved beyond reasonable doubt, say Special Public Prosecutor Mostafizur Rahman Babul.

According to the case statement, the convict Polash and Biplob raped the minor in turns on October 24, 2017, then hacked her to death, and later dismembered her body. Riaz, Biplob’s assistant, helped the duo in disposing off the body.
