The court could not accept the testimony of one of the witnesses, Golam Sarwar, as he was abroad
The court finished accepting the testimonies of witnesses in the Rifat murder case within 30 working days, yesterday.
The judge of the Barguna District and Sessions Judge Court, Md Asaduzzaman, completed the acceptance of testimonies of 76 witnesses out of 77, yesterday.
The court could not accept the testimony of one of the witnesses, Golam Sarwar, as he was abroad.
Adults charged in the Rifat murder case are Rakibul Hasan Rifat Forazi, Al Qayyum Orofe Rabbi Akon, Mohaiminul Islam Sifat, Rewan Ali Khan Hridoy Orofe Tiktok Hridoy, Md Hasan, Md Musa, Ayesha Siddiqa Minni, Rafiul Islam Rabbi, Md Sagor, and Kamrul Islam Saimoon.
The Public Prosecutor of Barguna, Bhuban Chandra Hawlader, said: " On January 1 of the current year, the Barguna District and Sessions Judge Court formed charges against the 10 adults accused in the Rifat murder case.From January 8 to February 25,the testimonies of 76 witnesses was accepted over 30 working days."
Mojibul Haq Kislu,lawyer to the plaintiff, said: "The testimonies of the adults charged have also been accepted swiftly. We are hopeful that the appropriate verdict shall be passed soon enough."
On June 26 of 2019, assailants assaulted Rifat with a Ramda (machete) in front of Barguna Government College and seriously injured him.
Rifat later died undergoing treatment at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
