The High Court has rejected the rule issued seeking bail of four body guards of Golam Kibria Shamim in a money laundering case.

The bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam rejected the bail plea on Tuesday, reports UNB.

The High Court also directed the investigation officer of the case to complete the investigation within four months after rejecting a rule on their bail.

Earlier, on March 3, the High Court asked the authorities concerned to submit a report within March 5 explaining how and on what basis the four bodyguards procured licenses for keeping arms.

The court also sought information about their income tax returns.

It also issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why four bodyguards of GK Shamim should not be granted bail in the case.

Md Khurshid Alam Khan stood for the Anti-Corruption Commission, Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik, and Assistant Attorney General Mahjabin Rabbani Dipa represented the state.

The four body guards, Mohammad Zahidul Islam, Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Kamal Hossain and Shamshad Hossain, filed bail petitions with the High Court when a subordinate court rejected their bail plea on December 24.

On Monday, their lawyer submitted affidavit copies of their income tax returns.

Golam Kibria Shamim alias GK Shamim, who was known as an influential contractor of Sabujbagh, Basabo and Motijheel areas of Dhaka, was arrested on September 20, 2019.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members seized illegal firearms and Fixed Deposit Receipts (FDRs) worth Tk165 crore, Tk1.8 crore in cash, and foreign currencies from his house and office at Niketan.

The elite force filed three cases against Shamim – one under the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), another under the Money-Laundering Prevention Act and the other under the Arms Act – with Gulshan Police Station on September 21.

The four bodyguards of Shamim were shown arrested in a money-laundering case.
