The High Court has fixed Monday for a hearing on the matter

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking Tk50 lakh as compensation for each of the Narayanganj mosque fire victims. 

Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker filed the writ seeking a suo motu order with the High Court bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Khairul Alam on Sunday.

The High Court bench then fixed Monday for a hearing on the matter.

The petition also requested the court to direct the government to take appropriate legal action against those responsible for the tragic incident and order the concerned utility service providers to ensure routine examination and maintenance efforts.

Till Sunday afternoon, at least 24 people, who suffered severe burn injuries in the air conditioner explosion during prayers at Baitus Salah Jame Mosque at Fatullah in Narayanganj on Friday night, died at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. 

Dozens of people were also injured in the blast and are currently undergoing treatment at the burn institute.

Meanwhile, three separate probe bodies have been formed to investigate the matter.
