A mobile court led by Rapid Action Battalion [RAB] and Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution [BSTI] on Tuesday seized fake foreign cosmetics worth Tk3.5 crore.

The mobile court of RAB executive magistrate Sarwoer Alam has also sentenced five employees of Takwa Enterprise, including the owner, to two years of imprisonment.

They also sealed four shops and three showrooms of the fake company during their raid.

“We saw that they do it in three phases: they import empty bottles of cosmetic products; they produce on their own and label them with foreign company’s logo or they buy empty used bottles from the local market; and then refill those with chemicals,” said RAB executive magistrate Sarwoer Alam.

Takwa Enterprise used to import empty bottles from China and refill it with chemicals made by them, he added.

The mobile court caught them duplicating at least 50 types of products, and using foreign labels, including that of Johnson and Johnson’s shampoo, powder, and lotion, among others.

BSTI field officer Md Shorif Hossain said they found a total of four warehouses of Takwa enterprise at the building where they conducted the raid. All of them were sealed shut.

“None of those products were authorized from BSTI,” he said.

In these products, mercury and other chemicals were used which is harmful for human skin, even subjecting to cancer, said the field officer.
