A lower court previously rejected her appeal
The High Court has directed the concerned lower court to provide relevant documents to JKG Healthcare Chairman Dr Sabrina's lawyer in the case of issuing fake Covid-19 certificates.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman came up with the order on Monday after hearing a petition filed by Sabrina.
Advocate Saifuzzaman Tuhin stood for Sabrina while Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi represented the state.
According to the lawyer, following the HC order the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court-19 will give the documents so that Sabrina's lawyers can examine them and defend her before the court.
Previously on August 20, the lower court rejected Sabrina's petition to get the documents.
So, on September 4, JKG Healthcare Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury appealed to the High Court against the lower court’s order and asked to be provided the relevant documents.
She also filed an application for the High Court seeking a stay order on the proceedings of the case filed against her on charges of committing fraud and forgery.
On June 23, a case was filed with Tejgaon police station against six people, including JKG CEO and Sabrina’s husband Ariful Chowdhury, over fake Covid-19 test reports.
Police arrested Ariful and five other former and current employees of the organization the same day. Sabrina was arrested on July 12 for her alleged involvement in the scam.
Following her arrest Sabrina was suspended from the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), where she worked as a cardiac surgeon. She and her husband Ariful have been remanded twice.
Also, on September 3, a Dhaka court remanded her for two days in a case filed by the Election Commission for obtaining two national identity cards (NIDs).
