His counsel says they will move the High Court seeking bail

Photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol has once again been denied bail by a Dhaka court in a case filed under the controversial Digital Security Act.

He will now move the High Court seeking remedy as he has been denied bail in three cases filed under the same law, said his counsel Md Jaydur Rahman.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court Additional Public Prosecutor Tapash Kumar Paul confirmed that Judge KM Emrul Kayesh passed the latest bail rejection order after Kajol’s lawyer filed an appeal on Monday.

Kajol was placed on two-day remand in the Hazaribagh police station DSA case on June 28. The case was filed by a Bangladesh Jubo Mahila League's Central Committee member on March 10.

Lawyer Md Jaydur Rahman cited various ailments of the journalist in the bail petition. He said one of Kajol’s hands has been paralyzed.

The same court recently rejected Kajol's bail in another case filed with Kamrangirchar police station on March 11.

On August 24, a Dhaka Court denied Kajol bail in another case filed under the same law with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station. This case was filed by Awami League Magura 1 parliamentarian Saifuzzaman Shikhor against Kajol and 31 others on charges of publishing a report with "false information."

They were sued for publishing and sharing a news report on expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Noor Papia on social media.

Kajol, who had previously worked as a photojournalist at national dailies such as Dainik Samakal and Banik Barta, is the editor of the fortnightly magazine Pokkhokal.

He went missing after leaving his office on March 10. After being missing for 53-days, Kajol turned up in police custody on May 3, after border guards arrested him on charges of illegal trespassing on the Benapole border in Jessore.

Kajol has been in jail since May after being shown as formally arrested in the cases.
