A Chittagong court has rejected the bail plea of Pradeep Kumar Das in a case filed against him by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over accumulating wealth illegally.

Pradeep, former officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf police station, is also one of the key accused in Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan’s murder case.

The court of Chittagong Metropolitan Senior Special Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman passed the rejection order on Sunday.

ACC counsel Kazi Sanowar Ahmed confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

“The court rejected the bail petition. Moreover, the ACC submitted an application to the court seeking permission to freeze and confiscate all the movable and immovable properties of the former police officer,” the ACC lawyer said.

Previously on September 14, Pradeep was shown arrested in a case filed by the ACC over accumulation of wealth illegally.

On August 23, the ACC filed a case against Pradeep and his wife for amassing wealth worth Tk4 crore from unknown sources.

The ACC's investigation against Pradeep started back in 2018.

On April 20 in 2019, Pradeep and his wife were given notice to submit a statement of their assets.

Pradeep and his wife submitted their statement in June 2019.

Following their statement, and after a long investigation, the ACC found evidence that Pradeep and his wife had illegally amassed assets worth more than Tk4 crore.

Pradeep has also been sued in a case filed over the murder of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan, who was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post on July 31.

Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, elder sister of Sinha, filed a case at Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court after the incident on August 5.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah issued arrest warrants against all of the accused after taking the case into cognizance. Pradeep surrendered on August 6.
