On October 5, key accused Shamim along with his associates went to the woman’s house and beat up her father with an iron rod

A Jagannathpur court on Sunday placed six people on remand in a case filed for the reported rape of a 25-year-old woman and the torture of her father in Sunamganj’s Jagannathpur upazila.

Judicial Magistrate Shuvodip Paul of Jagannathpur Cognizance Court passed the order, confirmed Jagannathpur police station Sub-Inspector Firoz Miah, the investigation officer of the case.

Key accused Shamim Miah was placed on a seven-day remand, while the other five — Liton Miah, Akkai Hossain, Ilak Uddin, Kajol Miah, and Shah Alom Khan — were remanded for one day.

On October 5, Shamim along with his cohorts beat up the victim's father with iron rods after they could not find his daughter at their house in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj.

The man had sent his daughter away after Shamim and his associates had picked up the woman and gang-raped her a month ago.

Police later brought the woman from Nabiganj area of Habiganj district on October 6 and she filed a case with Jagannathpur police station in this connection.
