Hurting religious sentiments: Bogra girl confesses in court

Confirming the matter, the investigation officer of the case SI Siam Hasan said the girl was sent to a safe home in Rajshahi

A 17-year-old Muslim girl who was arrested in a case filed for hurting religious sentiments gave a confessional statement before a court in Bogra on Tuesday.

Bogra Senior Judicial Magistrate Touhidul Islam recorded the statement of the girl, a resident of Bogra’s Dhunat upazila, under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

Confirming the matter, the investigation officer of the case SI Siam Hasan said the girl was sent to a safe home in Rajshahi.

Earlier, on Monday, a man named Jewel Rana filed a case against the girl with Sherpur police station as she had allegedly posted derogatory comments about Islam under a Facebook account named Putul Rani.

The accused girl was later arrested from her sister's home in Gazipur’s Kaliakoir upazila and brought to Bogra.

Two jailed for making derogatory remarks about Islam

Police have arrested two brothers for making deragatory remarks about Islam and Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) in Jahajmara union of Hatia Upazila, Noakhali.

The accused, Biplob Chandra Das, 27, and Pulak Chandra Das, 23, were making anti-Islamic remarks when infuriated locals detained them and handed them over to police on Sunday evening at around 8pm.

Md Milad Uddin, president of Bazar Management Committee filed a case against the siblings for hurting religious sentiments on Monday afternoon.

“They were sent to jail by the court after we produced them before it,” said Inspector Kanchan Kanti Das of Hatia police station.
