Previously, the court had fixed 77 dates for the report’s submission
A Dhaka court on Tuesday again directed Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to submit by February 3 its investigation report in the case filed over the sensational murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Abu Sayed passed the order after RAB official Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohiuddin Ahamed, also the case investigation officer, failed to submit the report.
Tuesday was the scheduled day for the report’s submission.
Earlier, the court had fixed 77 dates asking the RAB to submit the probe report but they failed to submit it. The murders took place eight years ago.
Sagar and his wife Runi were killed in their rented flat in the capital’s West Rajabazar area on February 11, 2012.
Sagar was the news editor of private TV channel Maasranga and Runi was a senior reporter at another private TV channel, ATN Bangla.
Following the murders, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police started an investigation into the case. Later, the case was shifted to the Detective Branch of police.
However, on April 18, 2012, the High Court, in an order, shifted the case to RAB for investigation as the former had expressed its inability to solve it.
At least eight people including their ‘family friend’ Tanveer Rahman were later arrested in connection with the killings.
Tanveer was released on bail later but the others are still in jail.
