Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Baki Billah passed the order on Sunday

Update : 17 Jan 2021, 09:33 PM

A Dhaka court on Sunday discharged the three businessmen who were detained along with what police thought was uranium worth Tk55 crore from the capital’s Rampura area last year.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Baki Billah passed the order after Rampura police station Sub-Inspector Rezaul Karim, also investigating officer (IO), submitted a probe report which said that the substance seized from the suspects is not uranium.

Earlier on December 29, 2020, acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-10 conducted a raid at Rampura police station area and detained – ABM Siddiqui Bappi, 59, Md Akhtaruzzaman, 33, and Md Mizanur Rahman, 50 – along with substances they then had claimed to be uranium worth of Tk55 crore.
