16 jailed for life in Khulna for Awami League leader murder

A Khulna court on Sunday sentenced 16 people to life imprisonment for the murder of Gopalganj municipality Awami League leader Asaduzzaman alias Titu Sharif. 

The imprisonment shall be rigorous, according to the order passed by Judge Md Najrul Islam of Khulna Speedy Trial Tribunal.

The convicts were also fined Tk5,000 each, in default of which they would have to serve one year more in jail.

The 16 found guilty are Sentu Chowdhury, Polash Chowdhury, Abdullah Chowdhury, Polash Kha, Bakkar Chowdhury, Sohel Chowdhury, Tuhin Molla, Sabuj Molla, Masud Molla, Rafikul Molla, Natun Chowdhury, Ziad Chowdhury, Shahidul Sheikh, Mashiur Chowdhury, Aliullah and Tarikul Sarder.

Of them, Sohel Chowdhury and Sabuj Molla are still on the run. 

Meanwhile, 15 accused were acquitted as the allegations against them were not substantiated.

According to the case statement, Titu Sharif was hacked to death by the accused around 12:30pm on July 1, 2018, on a road of Charsingati village under Naragati police station in Narail.

Ashiquzzaman, younger brother of the deceased, filed a murder case later in the day. 

Following a probe into the case, Nimai Chandra, the investigating officer of the case, filed a charge sheet in court against 31 people.
