A Dhaka court on Wednesday fixed March 3 to submit the probe report over the sedition cases lodged against Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Acting Secretary General Mamunul Haque, Islami Andolan Bangladesh Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Fazlul Karim and Hefajat-e-Islam Ameer Junayed Babunagari, for making anti-sculpture remarks.

A case was scheduled to be initiated on Wednesday. But the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) did not file any report.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder set the new date for the submission of the report.

On December 7, Muktijoddha Mancha central committee President Aminul Islam Bulbul filed the first case against the trio under Sections 120 (b), 153 and 124 (a) of the penal code with the court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Satybrata Shikder.

After recording a statement from the plaintiff, the court ordered the deputy inspector general (DIJ) of the PBI to probe the case and submit the report within January 7.

The plaintiff in the case alleged that Mamunul, at a function in capital’s BMA Bhaban on November 13, had threatened to seize the Shapla Chattar area, while Syed Fazlul Karim at a separate program in the Dholaikhal area, called for jihad to stop construction of Bangabandhu’s sculpture. He also threatened to throw the sculpture into the Buriganga river.

Junayed Babunagari in another program at Hathazari in Chittagong, had also allegedly threatened to repeat the Shapla Chattar blockade. He also threatened to tear down the sculpture of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Aminul Islam Bulbul also alleged within the case that the accused were trying to incite communal hatred by using religion for political gains.

Meanwhile, Bangabandhu Foundation Executive President Advocate Abdul Malek filed another sedition case against Mamunul Haque.

After recording the statement of the plaintiff, the court had ordered the deputy inspector general of the PBI to probe the case and submit the report within January 7.
