Man gets life term for raping daughter

A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced a rickshaw puller, Kamal Hossain, to life term imprisonment in a case filed on charges of raping his 13-year-old daughter in the capital’s Badda.

Judge Kamrunnaher of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 7 handed down the verdict in the presence of the lone accused in the case.

The court also fined him Tk50,000, in default of which he would have to spend six more months in jail. 

A total of six witnesses out of 12 testified before the court since the recording of depositions of witnesses in the case.

According to the case documents, Kamal raped his daughter from his first marriage at his rented house in Abdullahbagh in Badda twice – on May 4 and 5 in 2019.

The police arrested Kamal on May 8, 2019 after the victim filed a case with Badda police station in Dhaka against her father. Following his arrest, Kamal gave his confessional statement in the case.

After concluding investigations, Sub-Inspector Al Imran Ahamed of Badda police station submitted a charge sheet against three accused to the Dhaka chief metropolitan magistrate’s court on October 12, last year.

The tribunal framed charges against Kamal on October 12 last year in the case.
