A Dhaka court on Monday placed three former leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam on fresh remand for different terms in three cases lodged over the mayhem in Dhaka in May 2013 and March 2021.
Former organizing secretary of Hefazat Azizul Haque Islamabadi was placed on seven-day remand in two cases, former assistant secretary general Mawlana Jalal Uddin on three-day remand in a case and former Dhaka city unit vice president Mawlana Zubayer Ahmed on six-day remand in two cases.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masudur Rahman passed the orders when the three were produced before the court and the investigating officer filed a remand petition in a case lodged with Paltan police station over the mayhem by Hefazat in the Baitul Mukarram area this March.

The court placed Azizul Haque Islamabadi on four-day remand in another case filed over the same incident with Paltan police station. Meanwhile, the court remanded Mawlana Zubayer Ahmed for three days in a case lodged with Motijheel Police Station over Hefazat-e-Islam’s massive anarchy in the capital in May 2013.
Police arrested Islamabadi on April 11, while Zubayer and Jalal Uddin were arrested on April 16 and 17, respectively.
