Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sagar Deb, a fugitive accused in the murder case of Major (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan in Cox's Bazar last year, has surrendered before a local court.

Having been on the run for 10 months, the ASI appeared before the court of Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail on Thursday afternoon.

He sought bail, and the court ordered to send him to jail and fixed the hearing on his bail petition on Sunday.

Faridul Alam, public prosecutor of Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge’s Court, confirmed the matter to UNB.

Earlier on December 21, 2020, the court issued an arrest warrant against Sagar Deb after proclaiming him as an absconding accused.

Major (retd) Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police checkpost on July 31 last year.

A case was filed against nine people, including then Teknaf police station OC Pradeep Kumar Das, over the killing by Sharmin Shahrier Ferdous, Sinha’s elder sister.
