An executive magistrate sentenced them to jail recently
The High Court has ordered the authorities concerned to free the two minors in Netrokona who were sentenced to one-month jail by a mobile court under the Child Marriage Restraint Act 2017.
The virtual bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order on Wednesday after Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir brought the matter to the court’s attention and pleaded for an order on suo moto.
Taking the matter into consideration, the court passed the order and asked Mohammad Saifur Rahman, spokesperson of the Supreme Court, to inform the Netrokona deputy commissioner about it.
According to Saifur, he called the Netrokona deputy commissioner over the phone to inform him about the order and the latter said that the minors had been released after hearing their appeals.
Netrokona Atpara upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sultana Razia recently sentenced them through a mobile court for getting married. Sultana, also the executive magistrate of the upazila, ordered the police to send them to the Child Development Centre in Gazipur.
