CID wants another five days to interrogate the Dhallywood actor

A Dhaka court has set Thursday for the bail hearing in a case filed against Dhallywood actress Pori Moni under the Narcotics Control Act.

The bail hearing was scheduled  for Wednesday, but Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas fixed Thursday for both bail and remand hearing after the CID sought another remand of five days to interrogate the actress.

On August 13, Pori Moni and her aide Ashraful Islam Dipu were brought to the  court after a two-day remand in the drug case filed against them with Banani police station.

On the same day, the investigating officer of the case argued for keeping the accused in jail after the lawyers for the accused filed bail petitions. The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mandal rejected the bail petitions and sent the accused to jail, as both can flee the country.

On August 10, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas granted a two-day remand for Pori Moni and Dipu. Earlier on August 5, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid granted a four-day remand in the same case.

On August 4, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) raided Pori Moni’s home in the capital’s Banani neighbourhood and detained her allegedly with bottles of liquor, yaba pills and LSD blots.

The elite police unit said the raid was conducted based on information gleaned from Sharful Hasan alias Mishu Hasan and his accomplice Md Masudul Islam alias Jishan, who were arrested the previous day on charges of carrying out illicit activities through DJ parties.

In a near simultaneous raid, movie producer Nazrul Islam Raz and his manager Sabuj Ali were arrested as well.

RAB claimed that Raz ran a ring that used to host DJ parties in upscale Dhaka neighbourhoods and supply drugs, using the parties as a cover.

RAB brought drugs-related charges against Pori Moni and her aide Dipu in the case filed with the Banani police station on August 6.
