4 get life term in Ruet driver murder case

The accused hacked Abdus Salam indiscriminately at Ruet campus on April 24, 2018

A court on Wednesday convicted four persons and sentenced them to life imprisonment each in the verdict of killing bus driver Abdus Salam, 55, of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet).

Judge of Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal Anup Kumar found them guilty to the murder charge and pronounced the verdict in the presence of all of them in the court dock.

The convicts are Sohel Rana, Nur Nabi Hossain Hridoy, Anwar Hossain Saimon and Sabbir Ahmed.

Apart from this, two accused of the case identified as Foysal Ahmed Shifat and Shimul alias Polash are underage. So, their trial is taking place in the court of the prevention of women and child repression.

The prosecution story, in brief, is that the accused in accomplice with each other hacked Abdus Salam indiscriminately at Ruet campus on April 24, 2018. He was immediately rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital with grievous injuries where the attending doctors declared them dead after a few minutes of admission.

The tribunal examined recorded depositions of 25 prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence before handing over the verdict.

Public Prosecutor Entajul Haque Babu conducted the case on behalf of the case, while Abu Bakkar defended the accused.
