Nine Jamaat men were granted four-day remand on September 7
A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent seven leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, including its Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, to jail in a case lodged under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order as police produced the accused before the court after the end of their remand.
Police pleaded to court to keep them behind the bars till the end of the probe in the case.
Defence counsels, however, argued for their bail. After hearing both sides, the court sent the accused to jail.
The other six accused are Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana ANM Shamsul
Islam, Assistant Secretary General Rafiqul Islam Khan, Executive Council
members Ijjat Ullah and Mobarak Hossain, former president of Islami Chhatra Shibir Yeasin Arafat and ANM Shamsul Islam’s personal staff Md Imam Hossain.
Police arrested them from a flat in Bashundhara Residential Area to plan subversive activities on September 6.
A day after the arrest, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Mahmuda Akter placed nine Jamaat leaders and activists on four-day remand each.
Another court placed Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam and Md Imam Hossain on a four-day remand on September 10.
On September 12, Golam Parwar, Rafiqul Islam Khan, Ijjat Ullah, Mobarak Hossain and Yeasin Arafat were placed on two-day remand.
