The model has been denied bail repetitively since her arrest on August 1
The police have pressed charges against Model Faria Mahabub Piasha and her associate Sharful Hasan alias Mishu Hasan in a case filed with Vatara Police under the Narcotics Control Act.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Inspector Md Rafiqul Islam, the investigating officer, submitted the charge-sheet with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM) court on Monday.
Fourteen people have been named in the charge sheets as prosecution witnesses including the plaintiff, Sub inspector CMM court General Recording Officer (GRO) Ranaf Kumer told Dhaka Tribune.
Charges have been brought against the two accused as the investigators found proof of possession of drugs against the two.
Earlier on August 1, the Detective Branch (DB) arrested Piasha in the capital’s Baridhara area on charges of blackmailing people with objectionable photos and seized 780 yaba tablets and alcohol from her residence.
On August 3, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Mishu from the city's Bashundhara residential area.
Later, the police filed a case against Piyasha and Mishu with Vatara Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.
Piasha had been denied bail in the narcotics case despite repeated pleas on her counsel’s part. She was sent to jail on August 11, after the completion of her remand in two phases.
On August 23 the CMM court gave the CID clearance to interrogate her at the jail gate.
Piasha, former wife of Apan Jewellers owner's son Shafat Ahmed, first came to public attention after the The Raintree Dhaka hotel rape incident.
Shafat Ahmed was accused of raping two female private university students at the Banani hotel in 2018.
Her name resurfaced recently after the suicide of college student Mosharat Jahan Munia –who was reportedly involved with Bashundhara Group Managing Director (MD) Sayem Sobhan Anvir.
Piasha was found to be a family friend of the owner of the flat where Munia committed suicide while Anvir was relieved from charges in a controversial final report submitted by the police.
