Khulna policeman to hang for killing wife

A Khulna court has sentenced a policeman to death for murdering his wife over a family feud two years ago.

Judge Md Saifuzzaman Hero of the Jono Nirapotta Bighnokari Aporadh Daman Tribunal delivered the verdict in presence of the convict, Md Mahmud Alam, on Wednesday, according to court officials.

Satkhira’s Alam was a constable in the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) at Khulna’s Shiromoni. The victim, Zohana Akter Usha of Paikgachha upazila, was his second wife.

Citing case details, court official Md Murad Hossain Gazi said Alam strangled Usha to death following a marital discord on April 6, 2019, at their rented house in Jogipol, Dighalia.

Later, Usha’s brother GM Sohel Islam filed the murder case at Khanjahan Ali police station against Alam.

Police submitted the charge sheet against the then constable on August 15, 2019.

The court delivered the judgment on Wednesday after examining evidence and testimonies of seven witnesses during the trial.
