Students demand quick trial to ensure justice
Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) have demanded quick trial for the murder of Abrar Fahad, who had been killed at the hands of ruling party activists in 2019.
Remembering him on two years since the murder on Thursday, they also urged the law enforcers to arrest the three accused, who have been on the run.
Abrar, a second-year student of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering department of Buet, was brutally killed after being tortured overnight by Chhatra League leaders and activists at the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of October 7, 2019.

street drama and painting exhibition, and also sung different songs and recited poems on the campus.
Around 1pm, they held a human chain in front of Buet Shaheed Miner wearing black badges in respect of Abrar.
They asked the university administration to meet their demands including marking October 7 on the Buet Academic Calendar, organizing an annual memorial meeting on this day and erecting a memorial.
Later, the students distributed foods among the helpless people in front Dhaka Medical College Hospital and arranged a remembrance meeting virtually in the evening.
After Asar prayers, Sher-e-Bangla Hall authorities arranged a milad-mahfil for Abrar at the Central Mosque of Buet.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Chhatra Adhiker Parishad organized another program titled “Teacher-Student Assembly” at the base of anti-terrorism Raju memorial sculpture on Dhaka University campus in the afternoon.
Former vice president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) Nurul Haque Nur and leaders of his organization spoke on the program, and demanded quick trial of the case.
The Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Trbunal-1 re-indicted 25 accused in the case on September 8.
According to the police investigation, 11 people directly took part in the killing and the 14 others were involved indirectly.
