Family members said Shovon's behavior began to change after his admission to Rajshahi University. Locals said the last time he returned to the village many were surprised by the change in his behaviour and appearance.
Raninagar Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Mostafizur Rahman said Shovon was arrested with firearms in Rajshahi's Godagari in late 2014. He disappeared after getting released on bail. Members of the family told the Dhaka Tribune that Ahsan Habib Shovon, 23, who was killed during a raid on October 9, was a third year student of Rajshahi University's english department.
His father Altaf Hossain, a freedom fighter from Dakkhin Rajapur village in Raninagar Upazila, identified his son in Tangail on Tuesday. The body was handed over to him on Wednesday afternoon.
