A group of people entered the temple after devotees had left and smashed up the Kali idol, set fire to the Gita, and torched the Vishnu temple on the premises of Sarbojonin Vishnu Temple at Pokati village.

Chakra Mohan Sarker, president of the Sarbojonin Vishnu Temple Committee, said devotees had left the temple at midnight after praying.

"We believe the perpetrators sneaked into the temple after our departure. They set fire to the Gita, and smashed up the idols” he said.
