The detainees were picked up from different areas of Shahjadpur upazila in Sirajganj during separate police raids on late Friday night, said Abul Hasnat, additional superintendent of police in Shahjadpur circle. Police only revealed the identity of Nasir, who was arrested in Chhoy Aani village. Nasir is a member of the Awami League’s Shahjadpur unit. Among the four, only Shimul is listed as an accused in Shimul murder case; the other three are suspected of being involved in the incident, Hasnat said. Meanwhile, Shimul’s wife Nurun Nahar filed a case against 18 individuals, including Shahjadpur Municipality Mayor Halimul Haque Miru, his two brothers Pintu and Mintu, and three unidentified suspects. Earlier, local Awami League leader Bijoy Mahmud filed another case with police against 25 people including Miru and his two brothers. Shimul, Shahjadpur upazila correspondent of national Bangla newspaper the Daily Samakal, died on Friday after being shot in the head during a clash between two rival groups of the local Awami League on Thursday. Police said the bullet that hit Shimul was fired from Miru’s shotgun. Police later seized the gun. Miru went into hiding after the incident.
