Shimul’s family being threatened
On Sunday 10pm, two unruly youths went to his residence riding a bike and called his family members names. They claimed that mayor Miru was set up in the false journalist killing case. Nazrul Islam and Latif Mandal, two maternal uncles of Shimul, raised the allegation while talking to media at Madla-Kakramari village at Potajia union under Shahjadpur police station in Sirajganj. They said: “Two youths riding on a motorbike came to Shimul’s house on Sunday 10pm and threatened his family members. As neighbours approached hearing their shouting, they fled towards Dilruba bus stand.” “Since on Monday, we are living in fear,” they added. Other relatives and family members of Shimul including his wife Nurunnahar Khatun, son Sadik and daughter child Tamanna were also present at that time. Nurunnahar said, “Mayor Hiru and his brothers are very influential. Although the mayor is in jail now, many of his accomplices who were with him on the day my husband was killed are still at large. That’s why we are living in a perpetual fear.” Contacted, Shahjadpur police station Officer-in-Charge Golam Kibria said, “We are not yet informed about the issue. Shimul’s relatives have not told me yet.”
