Farmers Bank director brings gun to Dhaka airport ‘by mistake’

Update : 16 Feb 2017, 09:20 PM
Police on Thursday released Farmers Bank Limited director Azmat Rahman after detaining him earlier in the day from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for carrying a gun. “The gun was licensed and Farmers Bank director Azmat Rahman had the gun’s permit on him at the time. We have filed no case against him as he confessed the gun was with him mistakenly,” Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nure Azam Miah told the Dhaka Tribune. According to Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh, the director was detained at about 12:30am on Thursday from boarding bridge number 6 after civil aviation officials spotted a gun and a magazine with eight bullets inside his handbag during a baggage scan. He was scheduled to board a flight for Hong Kong. After spotting the firearm, aviation security members, with the help of airlines authorities, cancelled his immigration seal and handed him over him to the Airport police station. OC Nure Azam Mia also said Azmat, who lives in Gulshan, was handed over to his father after they signed a bond promising not to do such an act in the future. However, the gun, magazine with bullets, license and the relevant documents were kept in police custody for further verification, said the OC.
