UP member detained in Dhamrai girl rape

Police have detained a Union Parishad member on an allegation of raping a 15-year-old girl in Dhaka’s Dhamrai upazila. The detainee is Moktar Ali, member of Jadabpur union’s Ward 6. “The girl needed an age verification certificate to get a job at a garment factory. UP member Moktar raped her inside her house on Thursday night when he came there promising the certificate,” Dhamrai police OC (investigation) Depak Kumar Saha said, quoting family members. “The girl was alone in the house at that time. Neighbours rushed in when she screamed for help. Locals caught the UP member while he was fleeing the scene,” the OC added. However, he was snatched away from the locals by his associates then. Later police detained Moktar Ali on Friday following the allegation from the victim’s family and sent him to a Dhaka court with a six-day remand plea. “The girl was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital,” OC Dipak said further.
