DMP chief: Avijit murder case probe making huge progress
“The probe has significantly progressed, we are positive about finishing it in time,” he told reporters at the Shaheed Minar on Sunday, when overseeing security measures for the International Mother Language Day to be observed on February 21. “One or two of the accused were killed in gunfights with the police, many have been identified, and some have been arrested,” Asaduzzaman said, without going into any further detail. Regarding the security measures for the ongoing Ekushey Book Fair, he claimed: “…our security measures are flawless. We have talked to writers, publishers and visitors. They are all satisfied with our security protocols. “We have learned from our previous mistakes. This time, the security surrounding the book fair is far more rigorous than ever before.” On February 26, 2015, Avijit Roy, a former Buet teacher and founder of Mukto-Mona blog, was hacked to death by unidentified men near the Bangla Academy, when he and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya were returning from the Ekushey Book Fair. Bonya sustained severe injuries in the attack.
