“So far, the police have not found any concrete evidence of Babul’s involvement in the Mitu murder,” IGP Shahidul told the reporters during the Metropolitan Police Annual Sports Event 2017 in Chittagong on Wednesday.
Babul’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu was stabbed and shot to death by three men near her house in Chittagong city’s GEC intersection on June 5 last year.
Later Babul Akter was interrogated by the investigation officer at the CMP, where he confessed that Kamrul Islam Musa, prime accused in the case, was one of his informants.
When asked about the allegation, made by Sub-inspector (SI) Akram Hossain’s sisters against former SP Babul, the IGP said further: “We heard about the allegation from the media, but have not received any official complaint yet.”
“However, we are still investigating whether SI Akram’s death was a pre-planned murder or an accident,” IGP Shahidul added.
SI Akram reportedly had a motorbike accident on December 24, 2015 and succumbed to injuries on January 13, 2015 at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
