Police have arrested two persons from a Shahjahanpur residence in Dhaka on charge of “issuing a death threat” to a Japanese national.
The arrestees are Md Habibullah, 32, and Md Enamul Haque Bhuiyan, 30.
On information, the team of the DMP’s Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit conducted a drive in the area Thursday and arrested the duo.
The law enforcers also seized a mobile phone and a SIM card, from which they issued the threat, DMP’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (media) Md Yusuf Ali told the Dhaka Tribune.
On February 17, introducing themselves as members of “Jamaat-e-Taliban,” the duo threatened to kill Tatewaki, an Asian Development Bank official working in Bangladesh, through a text message to his phone, said Yusuf.
Tatewaki left the country out of fear after filing a general dairy with Gulshan police.
A case was lodged against the duo under the Information and Communication Technology Act. The CTTC unit is yet to confirm the existence of Jamaat-e-Taliban.
