
Customs Intelligence has detained a man carrying 3.5kg of gold worth Tk1.75cr inside the lining of his pants from Dhaka airport.
Md Adom Ali, 46, a domestic flight passenger, was detained with 30 gold bars when he arrived at the airport from Muscat via Chittagong on a Biman Bangladesh flight on Monday.
The detainee is a resident of Chittagong’s Fatikchhari upazila.
Confirming the matter, Customs Intelligence DG Dr Moinul Khan said: “Acting on a tip-off, we brought him to the airport’s customs hall and found the gold bars hidden in the lining of his pants.”
Quoting the detainee, DG Moinul said another passenger named Rahman handed Adom the gold on the flight.
“Alarmed by our operations, Rahman fled from the airport,” the DG added.
