‘Charge sheet in Holey Artisan attack by year end’
On July 1 last year, terrorists had stormed the restaurant in posh Gulshan of Dhaka and killed 22 people, mostly foreigners, before they were gunned down by commandos after a 12-hour standoff. “We have so far identified 20-25 people, including the slain attackers, who were involved in the attack,” the CTTC chief said when talking to journalists at the DMP Media Centre in Dhaka on Friday. DMP Additional Commissioner Monirul added: “If more names surface during the course of the investigation, we will arrest them. “At least 13 people, who were involved in the attack directly or indirectly, were killed in separate drives and three arrested. Seven to eight are now on the run.” The 13 killed are: mastermind Tamim Chowdhury, Sarwar Jahan alias Abdur Rahman, Tanvir Qadri, Zahidul Islam alias Maj Murad, Nurul Islam alias Marjan alias Shakil, Abdullah, Takeq, Faridul Islam Akash, Meer Samih Mobassher, Rohan Ibne Imtiaz, Nirbras Islam, Khairul Islam Payel and Shafiqul Islam Uzzal. Jahangir Alam alias Rajib alias Gandhi, Boro Mizan, Raqibul Hasan Rigan are in custody. The absconding accused include Choto Mizan, Sohel Mahfuz alias Hat-kata Mahfuz, Rashid alias Rash, Basharuzzaman alias Abul Bashar alias Chocolate, Maynul Islam alias Mainuddin alias Mosiuddin alias Musa. Bangladesh-origin Canadian citizen Tamim came to Bangladesh on October 5, 2013 from Syria and reportedly tried to form an umbrella group of militant outfits. Tamim later met one Maulana Kashem, who assisted him in reuniting members of Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) - a militant outfit that disintegrated into various cells. Kashem was arrested on Thursday over his suspected JMB link.
